The Great Family Road Trip Experience
Road trips have either been looked at with excitement or dread. Time to arm yourself with games that will keep it entertaining along the way to your destination.
We all know games like I-Spy and 100 Bottles of Beer on the wall. Both are classics and still great fun. But why not change it up a little?
Today most kids will be on their electronics anyway, so why not get connected? Certain apps will let the whole family in on a game. (Minus the pieces to lose.) So here's a list of games that are great for using electronics.
- Scrabble
- Family Feud
- Connect Four
- Chess/Checkers
But what if not everyone has something to play with or the batteries die you might ask?
Well then, make sure you've got pen and paper handy for these classic games!
- Hangman - The person whose turn it is thinks of a person, place, or thing and makes a blank line for every letter in the name. Everyone else must guess one letter at a time until they can guess the words or title. However for every letter guessed that's not in the word or title a piece of a person is drawn (a head, an eye, etc.) if a whole person is drawn before the word(s) are guessed the player who thought up the word(s) wins.
- I-Spy - find things around you that you can spy and only name the color or shape and let everyone guess what they think it is. (remember to not to give yourself away with your eyes!)
- 20 Questions - Pick a person, place, or thing in your mind and give one clue. (Title to a movie, person's name, etc.) and let the rest of the people guess up to 20 questions. They all try to guess with every question. If after 20 questions, no one gets the answer correct then the player who thought it up wins.
- License Plate Game - See who can spot the most out-of-state license plates on the trip. Let the winner get to pick dessert or the next place to eat.
Want to really make this trip one to remember? Got a little extra time or in no hurry to get where you're going?
Then Geocaching is an amazing pastime that always feels like a treasure hunt! Find hidden caches all over the world using GPS coordinates to a hidden treasure! It doesn't matter what city, state, or even country that you go to or travel through. Find a geocaching website and/or app for a completely free family adventure.
Pro tip: The size of the cache matters if you're in a hurry. Also, remember - you are allowed to take one thing each out of the box or cache as long as you also place something back inside of it. Don't forget to sign your family's name on the roster of people who have found the treasure!
And Have Fun!
